KPI markets methodology

Scope: A high‑level description of how monthly "end‑of‑month (EOM)" settlement works in KPI markets. This page is conceptual and does not include operator parameters.

EOM (end‑of‑month)

"End‑of‑month" refers to a single closing snapshot for the metric (e.g., TVL) taken at the boundary between one calendar month and the next, using a single consistent timezone and a public reference so everyone sees the same number.

See glossary: EOM, KPI market.

Why a single closing snapshot

A single, well‑defined close keeps settlement simple and predictable for traders. It mirrors how financial indices report end‑of‑period levels and avoids ambiguity that arises from rolling windows.

What EOM is not

  • Not a moving average (e.g., 7‑day / 30‑day).

  • Not a time‑weighted or volume‑weighted average.

  • Not user‑configurable in the app.

  • Not per‑protocol; it settles on a chain‑level KPI as listed.

Notes

  • KPI markets are curated by Butter; users do not configure or create markets in the app.

  • For technical details of data access and operator parameters, see internal operations documentation (not part of user docs).
